XIII edition of the Seminar of Environmental Documentation Centers and Protected Natural Areas has brought together 49 professionals from 16 Autonomous Communities, which develop their activities in documentary centers and libraries from Spain. As in previous years, CENEAM, which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, was the organizer, in collaboration with the Documentary Center of the Natural Park of the Zona Volcánica of Garrotxa, from Generalitat of Catalonia.

It gave presentations on research dissemination, information dissemination, collaboration and presentations about intellectual property, diffusion of e-resources, fundraising, standardization for publishing publications, UN environmental information sources, and digital resource access and management. Moreover, the following interesting experiences were also presented, as well as several workshops related to dissemination of environmental information, resource marketing, and sponsorship.

Wednesday 9th April 2014

After the welcome by the head of CENEAM, Juan Carlos Dueñas, a presentation roundtable was held, as many new centers have joined the team this year: Regional Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning of the Community of Madrid, Coal National Institute, University of Navarra, National Park Picos de Europa, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Development of the Regional Government of Andalusia and Polytechnic School of Huesca.

After the meal, Antonio Moreno of CENEAM, made a tour of the royal fisheries of Valsaín, so that the participants could get to know the surroundings.

They presented the following communications and proposals:

• Experiencia de difusión de la investigación en la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: Ciencia compartida, which uses the recording of short talks by researchers, posted on Pinterest, to disseminate and share research. Avelina Fernández. Library of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
• Propuestas de colaboración entre los miembros RECIDA to dymatize the portal or create a new tool that includes routes, courses, natural activities, ebooks, radio podcast, websites, etc. Ángel Poveda. Faculty of Biology, University of Salamanca.
• Experiencias con Netvibes: un proyecto colaborativo para la difusión de la información ambiental. Elena Primo. Health Institute Carlos III; Ana Pardo. CEIDA-Galicia (Center for University Extension and Environmental Dissemination-Galicia).
   

Subsequently, Elena Morato of AEMET (State Agency of Methodology) made a taller práctico para mostrar las posibilidades de  esta herramienta, on the example of Sierra de Guadarrama Natural Park.

• We begin with the theoretical speech abou El derecho universal a la propiedad intelectual. Marco de protección en el Derecho español. Montse Ttafalla. CRAI Biblioteca de Derecho. Universidad de Barcelona. Then, the assistants asked questions and commented some practical cases about this complicated subject.
• Then, we talked about elaboración de un plan de marketing para la difusión de los recursos electrónicos de la biblioteca which also cite examples of libraries from the U.S. extrapolated from our realities. And it made a taller práctico to give each group the opportunity to contribute their ideas. Aina Borràs. Barcelona University School of Technical Engineers.
• They followed the communication of a practical case: Captación y  formación de usuarios en Ingurugela (Versión en euskera). Jacinto Prieto. Ingurugela. Then, we watched an emotional vídeo.
• We also analyze the experiencia conjunta de los miembros RECIDA en el Congreso de Desarrollo Rural de Zaragoza (common experience of RECIDA members at the Rural Development Congress in Zaragoza) from the marketing librarian´s point of view. Marga Muñoz. CDAMA (Documentation Center for Water and Environment) of Zaragoza.
• RECIDA working groups: Experiences, Publications, Social Network, marketing (which merged with the Social Network to form a unique group), and Small Libraries, of which are now referred to as Parks because they are all protected spaces. They reviewed last year’s goals and suggested new goals.
   

After lunch we visited the Interpretation Center Boca del Asno in Valsaín.

In the afternoon we continued with the following:

• A theoretical session, whose name was Fundraising: ¿Por qué con tu dinero voy a cambiar el mundo?, (Why should I use your money to change the world?), which presented some samples to do the project Plan (title and description, objectives, audience, resources, monitoring, communication plan, budgets, etc.) and resources for funding interesting projects, in other words, crowdfunding. A practical workshop on patrimony and sponsorship was held right at the beginning. Lluis Vicente. Director of the Library l'Ateneu Barcelonès.
• The working groups continued with their proposals.
   

During the autonomous dinner, thanks to Josep Melero, the poem  “El poeta se despide de los pájaros” by Pablo Neruda was recited between all the participants.

Friday, 11st April 2014

• We begin with the report for 2013, in which we reviewed compliance with the commitments made at the last seminar. Susana Fernández presented an análisis del Facebook de RECIDA.
• They presented the tasks that the working groups will undertake:
  
  
  • Experiences Group. Víctor Benlloch, Teresa Canyellas, Avelina Fernández, Eduardo Molina, Yolanda Monteiro and Rosa Toril came together. This group distributed the territory to ask the centers to fill out the experience sheet: Rosa Toril: Madrid, Castilla y León, Cantabria, Asturias, Basque Country, Galicia; Eduardo Molina: Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura; Avelina Fernández: Canary and Balearic Islands; Teresa Canyelles, Yolanda: Catalonia, Aragon; Víctor Benlloch: Valencia and Murcia.
  • Publication group: Mercedes Barreno, Mabel Fernández, Lina Gomila, Elena Morato, Cristina García, Sara García, Alicia Plaza and Jacinto Prieto have come together. They will send a reminder message to the distribution list so that each center can fill out the form in their bulletins. Mabel Fernández (CENEAM) will be responsible for uploading the data to the RECIDA portal. If you have a suggestion on this topic, please send an email to carpeta.ceneam@oapn.es. They will put the link to the catalogs of the centers for which they will open a new section in the web of the network.
  • Park Libraries: Teresa Antolín, Jaume Belda, Cristina Orovio, Rosa Escobar, Miguel Menéndez, Jordi Vicente, Agustín Sánchez and Toni Suñer met. Agustín Sánchez (OAPN, i.e. Autonomous Organization of National Parks) will be the coordinator of this group. He will make the necessary arrangements so that the National Parks that do not yet have a document manager can do so with Koha, who will implement it in their center.
  • Marketing and Social Network. Aina Borràs, Clara Blanco, Rosa Bonet, Susana Fernández, Mª del Mar González, Montse Grabolosa, Luis Gutiérrez, Jorge Iriarte, Aranzazu Iturbide, Josep Melero, Isabel Morón, Marga Muñoz, Adriana Oliva, Ana Pardo, Pepe Pino, Chelo Pons y José Antonio Uría have joined forces. These two groups mix because they have similar proposals.
     

Various proposals were formulated, such as the dissemination of the World Environment Days carried out by the UN Library of the University of Valencia, the dissemination of topics and events of interest to RECIDA through Twitter, that each center chooses a day in the calendar to disseminate things on the Internet about its center or territory, and the printing of some stickers or marketing products for the dissemination of the network, etc.

However, the most successful was Josep Melero´s proposal to establish a RECIDA Day (perhaps September 17 because this was the closing date of the 2004 Navarre Seminar, where the name “RECIDA” was used for the first time). To celebrate RECIDA Day, we will carry out a joint action, namely a short 5-seconds clip of each center with a slogan and the phrase “Yo soy RECIDA” (I am RECIDA) in the different official languages. The group will make small sample videos to show the others some practical examples (deadline June 5) and Aina will pull them together (deadline June 30). They will also write a small guide on how to do it and present it, where to put it up, etc.

Chelo Pons presented a promotional video for this proposal.  

During the seminar, she also proposed new topics and actions to be carried out:

• Expanding and improving the list of electronic resources. Rosa Escobar from Monfragüe National Park.
• Generalitat of Catalonia, through Department of Territory and Sustainability and in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Natural Environment, Barcelona City Council and other Catalan institutions and administrations will try to organize in 2014-2015 a seminar of environmental documentary centers in this Autonomous Community, present RECIDA and try to contact, cooperate and coordinate the centers of this theme in this community.
• To improve the efficiency and speed of messages sent to the RECIDA Distribution List, it was again proposed to make the list open, without a moderator. The organization will discuss this option again with Javier Puertas, the List moderator, and it will be discussed in the List.
• Regarding the Portal, at the suggestion of Jesús Tramullas in previous editions, it was decided to make it more dynamic by including Facebook content in the Portal.
• Also, the proposal of Ángel Poveda will be considered, so a small group will be formed to evaluate the proposals to see which are feasible and how they can be implemented. After that, it will be put on the Distribution List for all the centers interested to join.
• Marga Muñoz from Zaragoza raised the possibility of collaboration at CONAMA (November 24-27, 2014) in one of the program sessions. CENEAM is working to establish contacts with CONAMA and select interesting topics for RECIDA. The Distribution List will be used for exchange, coordination and dissemination of information.
• Pepe Pino suggested that RECIDA members could translate into Spanish, Catalan… a very interesting 2011 document on electronic resources for students, available only in French: http://repere.enssib.fr. Rosario Toril offered to do the Spanish version and Montse Grabolosa the Catalan version. Pepe Pino has requested permission from the authors and the institution.
   

In addition, other tasks that have been carried out so far will continue to be carried out:

• Follow up on grants and subsidies by all RECIDA members.
• Continuation of the dissemination, collaboration and expansion of the Network for the universities and centers of our Autonomous Communities.
• Continuation with the interlibrary collaboration between the centers (donation of publications, articles, loans, etc.)
• Following the communities there was a guided presentation about Cómo acceder a los recursos bibliográficos  de la ONU y el Medio Ambiente. Consuelo Pons. Depository Library of Un. University of Valencia.
• Then, an overview of protocolo y los elementos fundamentales de la  Normalización para la edición de publicaciones. Cristina García. Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
• Finally, they talked about Acceso y gestión de recursos digitales and analyzed a number of analytical tools such as Academia.edu, ResearchGate or Screencast. They also recommended the interesting document on electronic resources for students mentioned above. Pepe Pino. Sierra Nevada N.P.
   

At the end, the assistants conducted an evaluation of the seminar evaluation and the results were satisfactory.
